Hi Blog world! So as the holiday season is dying down and I'm still unpacking the last of the boxes and getting this house organized, I was inspired to blog about the list of items I wish I had known to buy the first time I had moved out of my parents home the first time at 18 years old.
When I was 18, I was a young mom to an infant, newly married to the father (now my ex-husband) and was working and trying to figure my way into college. I had lived at my parents house up until then and being in a Filipino household my mom did everything her way, which meant I didn't learn squat on how to care for my own until I had thrown myself into adulthood.
When I rented my first apartment, it was a crappy ghetto one bedroom in a descent part of town that wasn't furnished. At the time my parents were nice enough to let me bring some of my bedroom stuff from my old room into the new place to use since I had my oldest son with me. Of course all the household items I bought at that time were cheap plastic, crappy quality but like I said CHEAP because that's what we could afford. I lived in the bay area, the cost of living there without a college degree and supporting a family is outrageously hard.
Eventually within the first year of my moving out on my own most of those belongings were ruined and eventually had to be thrown out.
So Now that I'm older, 10 years later and I've moved again (due to military life) and had owned my first house before I turned 25 years old at the last base, I had furnished with myself with quality items with my current husband and our kids. I'm glad to say I have learned my lesson is buying crappy things.
From experience I've learned what a first timer should buy when they're fresh from mom and dads house. Remember quality is best, if you can't afford it of course save for it or really look around for it online (because now you can do this) for cheaper. 10 years ago, internet shopping was just in its infancy, I didn't trust online websites with my financial information, I barely got into online banking but with today's technological advances, the kids today have it way easier. So my upcoming blog will have photos of the items that I found useful to have in my house. Keep an eye out!
Hope you're all having a happy holiday break. <3 Sheryl
